How we work
We are a small company with a big ambition. Our vision is to enhance creativity, communication and learning worldwide.
We want Thinkit to be used in settings ranging from development and business planning, to community workshops and education. We aim to build a social enterprise that will be a world leader in environmentally sound production and distribution. As we increase our production capacity, we will develop fair-trade manufacturing partnerships, so that producing the toolkit helps reduce poverty and build capacity, both in the UK and in the Global South. Sustainability lies at the core of Thinkit and provides a framework for its ongoing development.
For over ten years, the materials used in the Thinkit have been carefully chosen for their minimal environmental impact. This includes, for example, the use of roll-end carpet backing for the felt workspaces, thus using a waste industrial product that would otherwise be thrown away. Other components of the kit, such as the shoulder- and carry-bags, are made using natural and recycled fibres wherever possible.
We have focused on reducing the amount of raw materials we use – for example, through the use of super-strong Velcro, which means that less can be used to achieve the same results. One of the key drivers behind Thinkit is in fact to provide a re-usable resource that reduces wastage from workshops. We hope the future production and sale of Thinkit will help raise awareness of the benefits to be gained from environmentally-sound manufacturing.
It is also our goal to be working directly in support of Fair Trade principles, through innovative partnerships, aiming to reduce poverty. Thinkit is currently made by hand in the UK, providing additional income for people in the North West of England.
We continually look for ways in which we can improve our environmental performance. If you have any ideas for improvement, or questions about how we operate, then please contact us.
